OWNER’S COMMENTS:
This was the second of two Melonseeds that my father-in-law built. He noted that the first one took him 400 hours to build, but this second one he built with my dad took 500! My dad wanted a bit more beam, and a rig that allowed for ease of docking so that was factored into this boat.
She was built in the mid-90s at the Mac McCarthy’s shop in Sarasota, FL. Cedar strips, West System/fiberglass over the strips. I believe the plans were purchased from you. She’s completely watertight, with a watertight compartment for keys, phone, etc., the trailer is very good, and has new bearings, wheels and tires. Includes lightweight oars, leathers, oar locks and a cockpit cover. The boat is complete but needs cosmetic refinishing. She would be a great project and not very hard to bring back. She’s completely seaworthy and the sail, spar and oars were all stored indoors. She also sits on a road worthy trailer.
